The global nonprofit ORCID - Open Researcher and Contributor ID - is a scholar-led organization that issues a unique, persistent identifier free of charge to researchers.
An ORCID iD helps individual researchers to control their academic record, distinguish them from others with similar names, and provide a persistent record regardless of name, affiliation, or translation changes.
Google Scholar is a specialized search engine that provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature, including articles, papers, theses, books, and reports.
Team science is a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to research where diverse experts work together to tackle complex, large-scale problems by leveraging their combined knowledge and skills. Working in teams presents opportunities like access to broader expertise, enhanced innovation, and increased impacts. It can also be challenging to effectively manage resources, people, and ideas.
The Interdisciplinary Research Seminar Series is designed to build interdisciplinary capacity in areas of growing research strength by (1) fostering communication and promoting collaborations among UNCW investigators and (2) connecting local knowledge with the national expertise network and creating an intellectual community of peers. The IRSS focuses on a theme, problem, or broad question where UNCW has existing research capacity and a clear opportunity to grow its research contributions and overall success.

The goal of this program is to accelerate the growth, impact, and competitiveness of UNCW research in strategic areas. These Research Hubs will serve as the nexus and support for interdisciplinary teams of researchers to launch or advance multiple research projects.
To support this vision, two Research Hubs were awarded $100,000 a year for three years (starting in FY25) as milestones are achieved.

To help secure and strengthen the resilience of the maritime subsector of the transportation systems sector
North Carolina Biotechnology Center is a nonprofit organization focused on creating competitive advantage in the life sciences by engaging partners, maximizing opportunities, and delivering solutions to accelerate innovation, investment, and job creation.
NCInnovation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting North Carolina public university research with commercial potential. NCInnovation offer grants and other assistance aimed to bridge the critical funding gap known as the "valley of death" by providing funding and support services that help researchers navigate industry engagement and move their projects from proof-of-concept to commercialization.

SBTDC is a state-funded organization with a team of experienced business professionals to help small and mid-size businesses make more informed decisions, access sources of capital and financing, evaluate and improve your financial performance, explore new market opportunities, and improve leadership skills and employee performance.
The CFCC Small Business Center is part of a statewide network designed to support the development and growth of small businesses by offering programs, consulting and other services.
First Flight Venture Center is a science and technology-based business incubator dedicated to helping innovators develop their products and services quickly and cost-effectively with the end game of creating sustainable business models. FFVC offers a wide variety of programs including co-working lab space, office space, incubator programs, SBIR/STTR Consulting, prototyping services and more.

NC IDEA is an independent private, 501(c)(3) foundation whose vision is to help North Carolinians achieve their entrepreneurial ambition to start and grow high potential companies. NC IDEA fosters sustainable economic development with competitive grants and programs for entrepreneurs and funding to strengthen the North Carolina entrepreneurial ecosystem.
NEW holds free monthly events for a wide variety of entrepreneurs, investors, professional service providers, community supporters, students, recent graduates, Military Veterans considering entrepreneurship, recently relocated professionals and job seekers. Attendees from the Wilmington region included New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Onslow and Craven Counties.

The Coalition, established in 2016, makes it easier for individuals and small businesses to access the resources most suited to their particular needs. They have outlined the types of services available to those interested in starting their own business and to those already operating small businesses so they may make the best decision as to which organization(s) are in the best position to help them.
WBD is an independent, not-for-profit organization enjoys the confidence of local government officials, community leaders, educational professionals and hundreds of savvy business executives. WBD’s small but dedicated staff also maintains close, collaborative relationships with state and regional partners and allies.
Brunswick Business Industry Development’s purpose is to encourage and promote the development of new business and industry, to assist in the retention of existing business and industry, and to promote the industrial development and general economic welfare of Brunswick County.
The Wilmington Chamber provides its members with business-building programs, leadership development, and opportunities to connect with other businesses. They deliver timely information and advocacy to ensure your business is seen, heard, and supported. Their initiatives have stimulated economic development, influenced public policy, and fostered the creation of thousands of local jobs. They are a convener of ideas, a connector of people, and a cultivator of leaders. Above all, they serve as the local champion of a balanced and thriving economy in southeastern North Carolina.
